Major changes coming to Mohawk Valley parishes

UTICA/ROME, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — The Syracuse Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church announced earlier this week major changes to several local parishes.

In a letter dated Tuesday, June 16, Bishop Douglas Lucia announced that the Our Lady of the Rosary Church on Burrstone Road in New Hartford will be closing down effective on Thursday, July 16. The bishop had said that Reverend Jason Hage petitioned the diocese to demote the church to a “profane but not sordid use” designation.

The designation allows Our Lady of the Rosary to be used for secular purposes, excluding scandalous or immoral use. This allows the church to sell the property for other uses…
