GEDDES, N.Y. — A cultural village at the New York State Fairgrounds has been renamed to the Haudenosaunee Village this weekend.
The historical village was previously named the Indian Village back in 1928, and has remained unchanged for close to a hundred years despite the village showcasing traditional music, dance, crafts and activities of the Haudenosaunee people every year at the New York State Fair.
It was also a concern that with the New York State Fair being such a diverse fair with the Latino Village, Asian Village, Pan-African Village that if they were to get an Indian Village we would want to be able to identify ourselves separately from what would have been the Indian Village,” said Ashley Shenandoah the Haudenosaunee Village Superintendent…
