Syracuse cop’s 90-hour weeks delight his bosses. They should be alarmed (Editorial Board Opinion)

A Syracuse police officer more than tripled his base pay in 2025 by working astonishing amounts of overtime.

Officer John Tassini was on the clock for more than 4,700 hours last year. That’s about 13 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Overtime pay helped to take his salary up from $91,621 to $313,175.

Police brass are thrilled that Tassini is such a workhorse. But we question the wisdom of letting a police officer, who is sanctioned to use lethal force, work to the point of exhaustion…
