‘Some of these deaths are avoidable’: Fire chief confirms one person killed in Syracuse fire

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds confirms to NewsChannel 9 that one person has been killed after a fire in the city this morning.

Around 9 a.m., the Syracuse Fire Department received a call about a house fire on the 2400 block of McCallister Avenue. When crews arrived, there were reports of a person trapped inside.

“Our companies were here within minutes,” said Monds. “They saw the smoke as soon as they opened the door up.”…
