Clay proposes $30M host deal with Micron to replace traditional permit fees

CLAY, N.Y. — Clay officials are considering a new agreement with Micron that would change how the town collects money tied to one of the largest construction projects in New York, and taxpayers will have a chance to weigh in before anything is finalized.

Under the proposal, Micron would pay $30 million to the Town of Clay through a community host agreement instead of paying traditional building permit fees required under the current town code.

Town officials said that under Clay’s current building permit formula, Micron would pay about $62 million in building permit fees for Fab One alone. The proposed community host agreement would replace those fees with a $30 million agreement, including $20 million paid to the town over three years and an additional $10 million for community investment projects such as park improvements, expanded recreational opportunities and possibly a community center…
