Plan to raze an unsafe Syracuse parking garage runs into a neighbor problem

Syracuse, N.Y. – The city of Syracuse is suing two law firms in a dispute that is holding up the demolition of a 550-car parking garage whose steel beams and columns are crumbling.

The city filed a lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Onondaga County on June 17 seeking a temporary license to put a crane and other equipment in the parking lot of an adjacent building to facilitate the safe demolition of the garage.

The three-story office building at 314 E. Fayette St. is just three feet from the city-owned garage. City officials said Ritter & Paratore Contracting Inc. needs access to the building’s parking lot to install safety equipment and dismantle the garage’s eastern wall without damaging the adjoining property…
