State of Emergency Declared as More Heavy Rain Is Expected

A state of emergency was declared in both Suffolk and Nassau Counties as more fierce weather is expected to follow Saturday’s thunderstorm.

PSEG-LI said that as of 8:45 PM, it had restored power to more than 26,500 customers affected by the thunderstorms since 8 PM Saturday.  About 7,000 customers were without power as of 9:30 p.m.

The eastern end of Long Island was especially hard hit, with power cuts and uprooted trees as the storm raced across the area…
