We are still a couple of months away from the start of New York State’s whitetail deer hunting season. While there’s already been plenty of discussion about deer hunting and some of the rule changes taking effect this fall, the regular season won’t officially get underway until October.
Have you been seeing deer on your trail cameras or wandering through your backyard? It certainly seems like New York’s whitetail population is thriving. Open social media this time of year and your feed is probably filled with photos of spotted fawns or bucks growing impressive velvet-covered antlers.
Venison Is Running Low This Time of Year
For many hunters, this is about the time of year when the venison supply in the freezer starts to run low, or is completely gone. After a summer filled with backyard cookouts, it’s easy to go through plenty of venison burgers, steaks, hot dogs, and sausage.
