Another water main break hits Syracuse; crews working on downtown street cave-in

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A water main break caused a portion of a downtown Syracuse street to open up on Tuesday, across from the 433 Social Club.

The social club asked in a Facebook post that anyone coming to the venue that night be careful when parking near the cave-in, located near 400 Burnet Ave.

A city worker told NewsChannel 9 | LocalSYR that a water main break in the area was caused by a small hole in a fire hydrant pipe. Crews are replacing the water main and hydrant in the hopes of being done by the end of the day, the worker said.

This is not the first water main break in Central New York within the last week, since a different main break in Syracuse collapsed a road and swallowed a car on July 2, causing the bottom of the ramp off I-690 Westbound to Geddes Street to get closed off.
