40th Syracuse Jazz Fest starts today: Here’s the full schedule

The 40th Syracuse International Jazz Fest officially gets underway today, kicking off four days of free music celebrating one of Central New York’s longest-running summer traditions.

Before the crowds arrive, organizers, sponsors and volunteers gathered Wednesday night for a preview at the festival’s new home, Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards in LaFayette. About 100 guests got an early look at the stage and grounds while London-based Hejira made its North American debut with a tribute to Joni Mitchell.

The festival opens tonight with the U.S. Air Force “Airmen of Note” Big Band at Syracuse University’s National Veterans Resource Center before shifting to Beak & Skiff on Friday and Saturday for performances by Tower of Power, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Cha’s, Gunhild Carling and more. Sunday’s finale returns to Syracuse University for the “Return to Community” Gospel Jazz Service.

As always, admission and parking are free…
