Erin’s Angels founder Sheila Dion on leadership: ‘Love is the most powerful thing in the world’

Sheila Dion became a “lunch lady” at Phoenix’s Michael A. Maroun Elementary School shortly after a student, 11-year-old Erin Maxwell, died of abuse and neglect in 2008.

“That’s when I saw the kids asking for food for their backpacks,” Dion says. Children ate at school during the week but, like Erin, often went hungry on weekends.

When Dion found out Phoenix was the only school district in Oswego County without a weekend food program, “it didn’t sit well with me. I couldn’t know that information and not act on it.”…
