For 14-year-old Luai Aldwas, the Syracuse City School District’s afterschool programming changed his life.
The ninth grader said that before he joined Building Men in sixth grade, his personal struggles made it hard for him to socialize. The lessons at Building Men changed his attitude and taught him to be more respectful to his peers and adults.
“Building Men helped me choose the right people that have the same goals as me, because if I surround myself with the people who want the same goals, I’m more likely to have success,” Aldwas said. “I’ve made a lot of friends and people started to like me more because they got to know me.”…
