A Syracuse nonprofit steps in to give mortgages to Black homeowners neglected by banks

Syracuse, N.Y. — When Arian Reed and her husband bought their home on the South Side of Syracuse, they did not get a mortgage from a bank. Instead, they got financing from Home HeadQuarters, a nonprofit housing organization that is trying to make up for the lack of bank mortgages provided to African Americans and other minority borrowers.
