See new $2,900 a month apartments in one of downtown Syracuse’s oldest buildings (photos)

Syracuse, N.Y. – The building that housed Koolakian’s menswear shop for six decades is now home to three new apartments that overlook historic Hanover Square. Contractor Gavin Maloney bought the building at 132 E. Genesee St. from the Koolakian family in 2021 and built the apartments on its upper three floors over the past two years at a cost of $1.6 million. Ed Koolakian, grandson of store founder George Koolakian and the store’s operator for many years, died in April 2020 at age 71.
