The New York State Police (NYSP) recently conducted a Trooper Candidate Processing event. Held at the New York State Police Academy in Albany, the event attracted over 1225 applicants. This event is a key part of the recruitment process, involving physical, medical, and psychological tests, as well as background checks. Successful candidates are given a conditional job offer.
In addition to this, the NYSP opened another academy in Cazenovia, NY, in October. This allows for more classes each year. The latest event saw an increase in female and minority candidates. Female candidates rose by 30%, Black candidates by 35%, and Hispanic candidates by 13%.
In 2022, the NYSP pledged to increase the representation of women in its classes to 30% by 2030. The NYSP is now accepting applications for the 2024 New York State Trooper Entrance Examination. The deadline for applications is March 4, 2024, and the examination period lasts until March 17, 2024.
People interested in applying can find the requirements on the NYSP’s official website. The NYSP provides a competitive retirement and health insurance package. The starting salary during the Academy is $64,346, which rises to between $98,300 and $109,000 after a year. There is also additional pay for certain locations.
