RI man charged in New York diner burglary

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A West Warwick man accused of breaking into a New York diner, forcing open an ATM and stealing the money inside of it was arrested earlier this week, according to police.

David Degrasse, 57, is facing a number of charges, including burglary, grand larceny, trespassing and criminal mischief.

Officers were called to Flo’s Diner in Lenox, New York, last month to investigate a reported burglary. Detectives discovered that someone had forced their way into the building, cut open an ATM and stole whatever money was inside of it.

Police identified Degrasse as the suspect with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigations. The FBI explained that Degrasse was wanted in connection with a string of burglaries spanning several states.

Degrasse was taken into custody in New York on Monday. He is currently being held on unrelated charges at the Putnam County Jail.

Court records indicate that Degrasse’s criminal history dates back to 1984. He’s served prison time for similar burglaries in Rhode Island , Massachusetts and Connecticut .
