The woman helping Irish culture thrive in Syracuse, New York

An Irish woman in Syracuse is doing more than her share when it comes to the promotion of Irish culture in her community. Through storytelling, music, dance, and language, Deirdre McCarthy has a firey love for her culture and gets a thrill out of sharing it.

Having moved to the US to marry her “tall, dark, and handsome” American husband after the pair met in her family’s Limerick pub, she has an impressive history of promoting and celebrating Irish culture in its various forms.

Eve speaking to Deirdre over the phone, her gift for storytelling is evident. The way she tells a story or even just gives you information is so Irish in a comforting way. As she described the work she does in her community, I couldn’t help but be jealous of those who get to experience her burning passion for her culture.

Speaking to IrishStar.com , Deirdre revealed that she moved to Syracuse in the 1980s to be with her husband. Having grown up in the Irish pub her parents owned and ran in her native Limerick , she has always been surrounded by Irish culture in the form of music , dance, and storytelling.
