Former Throop Supervisor, William Tarby, has made full restitution after admitting to stealing $11,000 from the town. This information comes from State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Attorney General Letitia James, and the New York State Police. Tarby pleaded guilty to grand larceny and official misconduct in January. His plea agreement prevents him from seeking public office in the future. DiNapoli expressed gratitude to the Attorney General and the New York State Police for their cooperation in resolving the case against Tarby.

Tarby, 58, was the town supervisor of Throop from 2004 to 2019. In 2020, DiNapoli’s office began an audit due to concerns raised by the town. The audit uncovered financial irregularities. Further investigation revealed that Tarby had misappropriated nearly $11,000 from the town between January 2017 and December 2019. He made unauthorized withdrawals from town bank accounts, received cash back on checks made out to the town, and retained cash from the sale of town equipment and fines.
