Mavericks singer announces he has cancer and then goes to work at Syracuse’s Jazz Fest (photos)

Syracuse, N.Y. – The leader of Thursday night’s Syracuse Jazz Fest headliner announced he had colon cancer four hours before taking the stage in Clinton Square. In a video released on social media Thursday afternoon, Raul Malo, the frontman of the Mavericks, said he would begin chemotherapy soon and that the band would likely have to reschedule some shows this year.
