SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — William Soto, a 32-year-old man from Springfield, Massachusetts, pled guilty in federal court on Monday, July 1, to 12 counts of theft of government property.

Soto admitted that 12 separate times, he used fake checks to buy more than $30,000 worth of postage stamps over two days in Oneida, Oswego, and Onondaga counties in August 2023.
In one instance, Soto bought $9,438 in stamps using a fake check at a post office in Oswego County, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.
Soto will be sentenced on October 29. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to three years after his prison sentence is completed.
