Cornell University’s UAW chapter authorized to strike

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — More than one thousand Cornell UAW workers could walk off the job as early as Monday, August 19.

According to the Cornell Daily Sun — the dining, custodial, and maintenance employees represented by the United Auto Workers have voted to authorize a strike if a new agreement is not reached.

The union is looking for higher pay consistent with the cost of living, no-cost employee parking and workplace safety improvements.

In the meantime — a Cornell University spokesman says contingency plans are in place to maintain essential services and the university respects the employee’s right to choose to strike.
