Multiple firearms stolen from McLain’s Sporting Goods, other CNY stores

ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – An Endicott sporting goods store was a victim in a string of firearm burglaries across Central New York.

McLain’s Sporting Goods, located at 1001 Union Center Maine Highway in Endicott, was burglarized on August 7. According to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, individuals forced entry and stole six firearms.

In a post made to Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office announced that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), and the trade association for the firearms industry have partnered together and are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the burglary of several other federal firearms licensees.

A total of 45 guns were stolen. Other businesses impacted by the crimes include MD Arms in Syracuse, Denver’s Firearms in Watertown, and AJ Archery in Cazenovia.

“In a country plagued with shootings, every stolen gun has the potential to create victims of violent gun crime,” said ATF NY Acting Special Agent in Charge Tommy Kalogiros. “Federal firearms licensees are the first line of defense in stopping the flow of firearms into the hands of those who would use them to commit crimes and threaten the safety of our communities. ATF is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to apprehend the suspects responsible for these burglaries and to stop the cycle of violence.”
