ACC Coach Wants to ‘Send Champagne’ to Ryan Day After Week 1 Win

Week 1 of the 2024 college football season was full of intriguing headlines. One that went a bit under the radar was Kyle McCord making his first start as the quarterback for Syracuse.

McCord was the starter for Ohio State last season but then left Columbus via the transfer portal. He wound up at Syracuse with new head coach Fran Brown and immediately was expected to be the QB1 for the Orange.

On Saturday, Syracuse kicked off the season with a 38-22 win over Ohio at home, and McCord looked nothing short of excellent.

After the game, Syracuse head coach Fran Brown acknowledged he wanted to send Ohio State coach Ryan Day a gift for being able to land McCord.

“Kyle’s a good football player, you’ve seen it right there,” Brown said. “I should send Ryan Day a bottle of champagne for allowing us to get him.”

McCord certainly played well for the Orange.

He finished with 354 yards passing and had four touchdowns with one interception to lead Syracuse to victory.
