Deputy killed in crash while responding to call in upstate NY identified

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deputy who died in a crash while responding to a call Wednesday morning.

Cailee Campbell, 33, died while responding to another call for service, for a motor-vehicle accident, when her patrol car was involved in a two-car crash occurred just before 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of County Route 176 and Rowlee Road in Volney, Oswego County, according to a news release from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.

Campbell was taken to the Oswego Hospital and was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.

The other driver was transported to Upstate Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Campbell worked for the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office for 17 months, since April 2023, deputies said.

In a social media post on Thursday, the office said that Campbell “served her community with dedication and enthusiasm, and her legacy will live on in our hearts. The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is asking for prayers for friends, family and colleagues during this difficult time.”
