Camden park helps flag make its way back to late soldier’s father

CAMDEN – Earlier this month, Frank Bergin, one of the driving forces behind the village of Camden’s Freedom Park, received a letter with an important message. Bergin is the volunteer director of the park, which was born of a desire to recognize soldiers from the area who gave their lives in the nation’s defense, including Army Spc. Blair D. Thompson. In June 2010, Thompson, then a 19-year-old Army specialist, was assigned to the 1st Battallion, 327th Infantry Division, 1st Brigade Combat Team and 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, in Asadabad, Afghanistan, a city of nearly 50,000 in the Kunar Province, less than 20 miles from the Pakistan border.
