The Jewish year 5784, which draws to a close this week, has been one of relentless death and destruction in the Levant, including the loss of 1,100 Israelis and more than 42,000 Palestinians. The latter is an undercount, since almost all of the 2.1 million Palestinians living in Gaza are now displaced and unhoused due to the Israeli military’s relentless bombing and ground incursion, and an unknown number of Palestinians also lie buried beneath the rubble. Now, too, hundreds of Lebanese people have been killed and over one million displaced by Israel’s bombing campaign-bombs supplied by the United States.
