Election 2024: How NY Senate candidates from Syracuse want to handle juvenile crimes

Syracuse, N.Y. – The candidates running to represent Syracuse in the state Senate agree that the city has a juvenile crime problem, but they clash on how Albany can help. Incumbent Democratic state Sen. Rachel May and Republican challenger Caleb Slater both live in Syracuse and say they want to help their fellow residents worried about criminals stealing cars or burglarizing homes and businesses. They are vying to represent the state Senate’s 48th District, which includes the entire city of Syracuse, all of Cayuga County and several Onondaga County towns.
