SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – Most of Central New York is now classified as ‘abnormally dry’ in the latest Drought Monitor.
After a much drier than average October in Syracuse , we have managed to see a little bit of rain so far this November. However, we are still running a deficit for this month.
These dry conditions have set the stage for an elevated risk of fire spread, which has prompted Tompkins and Cortland counties to issue burn bans.
While there are some showers in the forecast in the next seven days , the total amount of rain we are expecting is not substantial; an inch or less for most.
Looking beyond the 7-day forecast through the middle of the month, there are signs that we may actually end up trending toward above average precipitation.
We will continue to monitor the drought situation here in Central New York. Stay with the NewsChannel 9 Storm Team for updates.
