Karaoke is part of our lives. In every household in the Philippines has Karaoke, and so that could be one of the few reasons that I got into the music growing up.

Sofronio Vasquez, musician

The Philippine-born singer is Central New York’s gift to the vocal competition show this season. Sofronio has lived in Utica for two years studying Dentistry. But his golden throat has put those plans on hold.

Vasquez says, “Music is everything. Music connects every soul. Music represents sadness. Music represents happiness. Joy and family. So music is just magical.”

Sofronio earned a rare Four-Chair Turn during his blind audition for “The Voice” celebrity judges, and he signed on with Team Michael Buble. His hero is now his coach.

Sofronio got a hand from veteran musician Jim O’Mahoney on his Voice audition videos, and on a concert in Utica before heading west for live auditions.
