CENTRAL NEW YORK – History was made by the Jordan-Elbridge girls volleyball team when, needing all of its toughness and tenacity, it rallied from a two-set deficit and turned back Weedsport to win the Section III Class C championship.
This sectional final held Saturday at Emerson Dillon School in Phoenix was already a milestone on the Eagles’ part, but what unfolded only made it more so.
Weedsport proved that it was a team vastly improved from the one J-E swept back on Sept. 19. In both the first and second sets the Wolverines asserted itself, taking the opener 25-20 and then dominating the second 25-14.
Staring at this deficit, the Eagles would find its rhythm in the third set and run over Weedsport 25-11. Far more important was a tense fourth set where the Wolverines got close to the title, only to have J-E regain the lead late and pull it out 25-23.
In the final-set race to 15 points the Eagles won it 15-9 as Sydney Parsons worked her total to 16 kills, with Zoie Karcz getting 16 assists, five kills, nine digs and two aces.
