NNY Traffic Debacle Lands SYR Resident in Hot Water

PHILADELPHIA, N.Y. (WWTI) – Sheriff’s Deputies observed and attempted to stop a 2022 Nissan SUV for speeding on US Rt. 11 in the Town of Philadelphia on Nov. 9, 2024, at approximately 2:42 a.m.

Deputies said the operator failed to comply and fled at a high speed through Philadelphia and North toward Antwerp. As the vehicle fled, Deputies identified it as a stolen vehicle from Camillus in Onondaga County and the alert advised that the suspected driver may be armed.

Deputies said they continued to try to stop the vehicle and the operator continued to flee, at high speeds and in a reckless manner. At one point, according to Deputies, his reckless operation caused a collision with a marked Sheriff’s patrol unit. The collision caused damage to both vehicles, but caused no injuries.

The operator continued North and into St. Lawrence County where patrols from the New York State Police assisted in attempting to stop the vehicle, according to police. At approximately 3:24 a.m., patrol units from the NYS Police, stopped the vehicle just outside of Canton and the operator and passenger were taken into custody.
