Onondaga County fined nearly $100,000 for sending 36 million gallons of sewage into the lake

Syracuse, N.Y. — Onondaga County has been fined nearly $100,000 for discharging more than 36 million gallons of raw sewage that ended up in Onondaga Lake in July. It’s the second time in five years the state Department of Environmental Conservation has fined the county for sewage discharges stemming from the 50-year-old section of pipe that runs over the mouth of Onondaga Creek.
