Syracuse officials reassure residents of next steps as Micron’s finalized $6.1 Billion investment

Syracuse, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — As Micron receives its $6.1 billion federal investment to get their
project running local officials ensure that with bipartisan support they will be able to
streamline the environmental review process.

“Micron is priority one and has been priority one,” said Justin Sayles communications director
for Onondaga County executive Ryan McMahon.

On December 10, Micron announced they had finalized an agreement that will allow for a $6.1 billion grant for Micron to build their plant in Clay. This was a relief to many who had been waiting for around 8 months. This last push sets in stone the money Micron will need to make their project come to fruition.

Kara O’Connor, local business owner of Kara Anne, a small boutique downtown, launched before
Micron’s arrival and was happy to see how involved they became in the community.

O’Connor suggested that Micron coming to the area and bringing manufacturing jobs to the U.S. could bring Syracuse back to the 1980s, a time when she said she felt the community had flourished.
