Onondaga Sheriff says he’ll only detain immigrant if he has warrant signed by judge

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The arrest of Galindo Lopez, 28, at a Walmart in Cicero has ignited a debate over immigration policies in Onondaga County. Lopez was taken into custody after he allegedly attacked a woman in a bathroom stall on Jan. 4. The next day, he was arrested and charged with sexual abuse, forcible touching, unlawful imprisonment and exposure after Syracuse Police spotted his van.
