The winter storm ripping through New York this Presidents Day weekend has caused thousands of utility customers to temporarily lose power . With whipping winds and gusts up to 60 mph predicted in parts of New York on Monday and Tuesday morning, sparking high wind warnings across the state, additional outages are also likely, according to the National Weather Service .
National Grid power outages
National Grid reported more than 19,000 outages across more than half of New York’s counties late Sunday. According to the utility company’s website, more than 12,000 customers were without power as of 5:30 a.m. Monday – with a majority of those outages located in the capital region, near Albany and Saratoga Springs.
RG&E power outages
On Sunday, roughly 9,000 Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. customers in the Rochester region (Monroe, Orleans and Ontario counties) temporarily lost power due to the winter storm.
New York State Electric and Gas power outages
Currently, around 2,000 New York State Electric and Gas utility customers are without power. with most of them located in the Catskills. Sullivan County accounts for more than half of the current outages and there are hundreds of NYSEG customers without power in Westchester County also,
