ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Buffalo parole officer is gearing up after receiving unexpected orders to report to the Collins Correctional Facility, as correction officers at over 20 New York State prisons went on strike for a third day Wednesday.
The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision told News 8 parole officers have done the eight weeks of training required at its academy to be equipped to serve at the correctional facility. Wednesday, that officer’s husband told News 8 she’s not prepared to take this on.
“My wife had none of that training. My wife is dealing with parolees,” Tommy said. “I don’t know when to expect my little bitty wife home again, whether it’s in the same day. I don’t know whether she’s going to be thrown into a prison facility or whether she’s going to be doing transport, which, in fact, is dangerous. This is putting many lives at risk, and we need help.”…
