“This is no coincidence” inmate advocates question timing of illegal prison strikes

Schenectady — On Thursday afternoon, Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick unsealed the indictment against officers accused of killing Robert Brooks in Marcy Correctional Facility. Nine correction officers involved are facing criminal charges, six of them have been charged with murder in the second degree.

At the same time, correction officers across the state continued unauthorized strikes, saying staff shortages are at crisis level forcing them into grueling mandatory 16-24 hour overtime shifts, all while violence among inmates is escalating.

Some though, are questioning the timing of these illegal strikes, saying they’re really intended to cover up the fallout of the charges against the officers involved in Brooks’ death…
