N.Y. Gov. Hochul urges residents to prepare for heavy rain and potential flooding

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is directing state agencies to prepare for heavy rain and the potential for flooding this weekend.

From Saturday afternoon through the evening, parts of Central and Western New York could experience thunderstorms and gusty winds.

On Sunday, heavy rains statewide could trigger localized flooding. According to the governor’s office, these rainfall amounts could reach up to 2 inches. As of Saturday morning, the National Weather Service believes New York City may see up to 1.5 inches of rain; Long Island could receive even more than 2 inches…
