California, New York and Texas would see some of the highest numbers of students impacted if cuts to CEP were made

California, Texas and New York would be some of the hardest hit states if funding for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) were cut, according to new data released by the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC).

Late last month, the House of Representatives passed a budget resolution that directs the Education and Workforce Committee to cut $330 billion from the programs it oversees, which includes school meals.

It is still not known specifically what programs could be impacted, but earlier this year, the House Ways and Means Committee proposed requiring income documentation from families applying for free or reduced-price meals and raising the threshold required for schools to participate in the CEP…
