Fire breaks out at former Sisters of Saint Francis convent complex, smoke seen for miles

SYRACUSE, N.Y — A fire, with a smoke plume seen for miles, broke out at the former Sisters of Saint Francis convent complex on the north side of Syracuse on Friday, March 21.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Several roads near Grant Boulevard and Court Street were closed to traffic.

The property is well known– because it has been vacant for so long. There have been some recent attempts to convert it into apartments…
