Don’t let apartments block Onondaga Lake Park view (Your Letters)

Regarding “McMahon’s agenda: new hotels, lakeside apartments and another Micron-fueled land-buying spree“ (March 20, 2025):

An unnamed developer wants to put apartments along Lake Drive/Brow Stree in Liverpool. I know that Syracuse needs more housing, but to block a popular nature park from public view is not a great idea. In fact, it’s a very bad idea.

I’m guessing these apartments, with their minimal water view, will be expensive. What happens when the renters decide that Lights on the Lake is invading their privacy? Lights on the Lake provides funds for many nonprofits and it makes the park useful in winter. We might wish the displays were less childish and more artistic, but children get a great deal of pleasure from these displays. What happens when these tenants find that the Salt Museum is blocking their view of the lake, and that little piece of history has disappeared? What happens to all the runs and walks that also fund nonprofits? What about all the health benefits the lake walk offers to citizens in Liverpool village, Salina, Onondaga County and all of Central New York?…
