Teen Sentenced to Prison for Fatal Shooting in Syracuse

A 16-year-old, JyQuest Williams, has been sentenced to at least 16 years in prison for the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Alexcia Lynch in Syracuse. The incident occurred on August 30, 2024, on Madison Street, where Williams also fired at two other individuals. Despite his guilty plea to second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, leaving Lynch’s family and prosecutors seeking answers.

Judge Ted Limpert sentenced Williams to 14 years to life for the murder, plus an additional two to six years for the attempted murders, as reported by Syracuse.com. The judge noted that Williams had no prior criminal history, making the crime all the more shocking to the community.

During the sentencing, Lynch’s mother, Krystal Herndon, expressed her ongoing struggle to comprehend the loss of her daughter, who was a youth leader at her church and aspired to become a nurse. “I don’t understand why someone would take her life,” Herndon said in court.
