Syracuse details sidewalk replacement plans. Will your block get one this year?

Syracuse, N.Y. — About 10 miles of new sidewalks are planned for city of Syracuse neighborhoods, paid with funding from an annual fee property owners pay and state reimbursement money.

The Syracuse Common Council will hold a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, on the proposed 2025-26 City Municipal Sidewalk Program.

The program was developed by Mayor Ben Walsh’s administration and approved by the Syracuse Common Council in 2021. The work gets supported by an annual fee for property owners, currently $60 for residential site and $180 for commercial parcels. In the 2025-26 fiscal year, which starts July 1, the fees will increase to $80 and $240. In 2026-27, it climbs to $100 and $300, the final increase in a six-year phased implementation of the fees…
