Auburn man pleads guilty to attempted assault after setting victim on fire

An Auburn man has pleaded guilty to a violent felony charge after admitting he tried to seriously injure a woman by setting her on fire during a July 2024 incident.

Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced that 51-year-old Mathew Mosher pleaded guilty on May 8 to one count of attempted assault in the first degree, a Class C violent felony. The plea was entered before Judge Thomas G. Leone in Cayuga County Court.

According to the indictment, Mosher admitted to intentionally pouring nail polish remover on the victim and then using a lighter to ignite it. The woman suffered burns on her leg as a result…
