I am writing in response to your editorial on the unfair tax assessments in the city of Syracuse, which I read with some dismay (“Syracuse Common Council lacks courage to fix unfair assessments,” May 11, 2025).
I consider myself politically astute, but as former executive director of our minority chamber of commerce, local business owner and Syracuse University graduate where I majored in finance, I’m well-versed in economics and the impact to our surrounding communities.
The abject failure of our mayoral candidates (Pat Hogan and Chol Majok) to consider the burden this places on the most economically disadvantaged households in the city and the potential to further exacerbate the wealth gap in one of the poorest communities in the United States, particularly for Black and brown households, is disconcerting…
