Three officers in Brooks beating plead not guilty

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — At least three of the officers charged in the beating death of Robert Brooks will go to trial after pleading not guilty in Oneida County Court on Tuesday.

Nicholas Kieffer, Anthony Farina, and David Kingsley rejected the plea deals given to them by Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick on Tuesday, May 13. The top charge for all three is murder.

The three officers are among nine who are expected to give pleas within the next few weeks. In a hearing on Monday, May 5, Officer Christopher Walrath pleaded guilty to his role in Brooks’ death. He is scheduled for sentencing in August, and his top charge was also murder. However, Walrath pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter in exchange for 15 years in prison…
