SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A Syracuse man has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $22,000 in pension payments sent to his dead mother, the New York State Comptroller’s Office announced on Thursday.
The comptroller’s office said the defendant, Michael Glinkski, 45, deposited 17 pensions into his personal bank account by endorsing the checks using his power of attorney, which he knew had ended under the law at the time of his mother’s death. He was arrested in January for grand larceny.
The comptroller’s office said Glinkski’s mother was a clerk with the Village of Solvay Police Department who retired in August 2014. She received a monthly pension check. She also received pension payments from her deceased husband as a beneficiary since 2019…
