Westcott Theater plans to reopen after shutting down over safety violations

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — After nearly a week of no events in response to Syracuse officials issuing an order halting events, the Westcott Theater will reopen for shows again starting Friday, June 6.

Westcott Theater closed due to gun incident and licensing issues

The city ordered the shutdown after uncovering some significant safety violations during an inspection of the venue on Monday, June 2. The inspection came after a recent incident where fights and gunfire broke out after an event outside of the theater, where code enforcement officers and fire safety officials later inspected.

One major issue is that the fenced-in patio space is located outside the back entrance of the theater, which lacks a proper exit in case of an emergency.
