Wegmans launches campaign to support local food banks amid funding cuts

Wegmans Food Markets has launched its Fill the Bus/Fill the Backpack scanning campaign to support its 48 partners at Feeding America food banks.

Customers can contribute $3, $5, or any amount at checkout, with all proceeds benefiting local food banks. The donations will aid local food banks’ summer feeding and backpack programs, which provide school-aged children with food. It happens during the summer months when school meals are less available for students.

“Summer is always a challenging time for families seeking to put nutritious food on their tables because schools are closed and free breakfasts and lunches aren’t accessible to the children who normally rely on them,” said Radha Muthiah, president and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank. “This year, we know that even more people in our region are facing tough economic circumstances. That’s why we’re grateful to Wegmans and its customers for helping us ensure kids and families can get the good, nutritious food they need to thrive this summer and into the future.”…
