Mattydale, N.Y. — Firefighters at the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department in Mattydale made a grim discovery recently behind their firehouse: two dead newborn puppies inside a plastic drum.
They found the puppies on May 20 as members of the department were cleaning up the back lot of the station and getting ready for training. The firefighters have no idea who put the puppies in the drum.
“We were outside our firehouse walking around and cleaning up,” said Fire Chief Chris Culkin. “We saw a 55-gallon plastic drum behind the firehouse with a lot of flies around it. We thought maybe a possum got in there or something, so we took it to the side of the fence line, dumped it and saw two newborn puppies.”…
